Excavators of all sizes are designed with swing drive, swing motor and swing gear and bearing components. The top of the unit is usually a hydraulic piston swing motor and below will be the swing gear reduction unit. This is normally referred to as the swing drive or swing gear box.7 Most swing drives consist of a single or double reduction planetary gear set up.
